We got in contact with Matt to ask a few questions to find out the real Matt.
When did you realise music was for you?
To be honest, I can’t remember a time when I didn’t want to sing. I remember making bands with toy instruments and tormenting my parents with constant singing. I was 22 when I had the confidence to make something of it seriously.
How did you start out?
I entered a singing contest after a few too many beers and ended up with a regular gig. Totally blew my mind the positive reaction I was given. Couldn’t stop after that.
What’s the most buzzing gig you have done so far?
A few stand out but the biggest buzz would have to be when I played at the Portsbridge in Cosham with my first band – everyone was going nuts for us. I ended up singing sweet child of mine while stood on the back of a sofa with everyone jumping around me. Real rock star moment.
Where are you from?
Live in Fareham now and grew up in Portchester.
What are you musical influences?
I have quite a wide range of musical taste and my influences are drawn from all over. Right now, I think artist like Ed Shearan and bands like Matchbox Twenty or Daughtry.
When did you first start singing?
Probably before I was talking.
First song ever sung?
In front of anyone, it was Bryan Adams, Anything I Do I Do it For You.
What did your family do to encourage you?
Everything they could. Helped fund my PA, came to gigs and mostly put up with me singing all the time.
What kind of music do you listen to today?
Rock, Pop, RnB, Country or anything else with a great tune I can sing to.
What embarrassing songs might we find on your MP3 player?
Bit of a guilty pleasure of mine is boy bands. Backstreet Boys, N*Sync and, yes, One Direction.
Where would you most like to perform?
Would love to do the O2 one day.
If you weren’t performing, what would you be doing?
I enjoy cooking, watching movies and tv box sets, reading and I wrestle WWE style (spandex and everything).
